Portaferry Castle Park Community Hub Engagement
Portaferry Castle Park Community Hub
PEACEPLUS Public Information Session
We were delighted to host a public information session on Monday, 29 September 2025, at the Portaferry Market House, marking an exciting step forward for the PEACEPLUS capital project at Portaferry Castle Park Community Hub.
The event ran from 4pm to 8pm and provided a valuable opportunity for local residents, stakeholders, and visitors to engage directly with the project team. Attendees explored detailed plans for the revitalisation of Castle Park’s historic walled garden and surrounding parklands, part of a wider regeneration effort supported by PEACEPLUS funding.
Portaferry Castle Park offers a unique blend of heritage and community space, with the project envisioning a welcoming hub building refurbishment, improved entrances, new gathering spaces, and enhanced connections to the town's maritime past. Plans incorporate community rooms, outdoor learning canopies, seating areas, and the potential for new visitor amenities such as a kiosk café and bike rental to encourage active travel around Portaferry.
The session allowed participants to ask questions, provide feedback, and discuss how the renovations can best serve local needs while celebrating Portaferry’s rich history, from the 16th-century castle ruins to the vital ferry and rope-making heritage.
This interactive engagement underlines the commitment to creating a vibrant, accessible place for community life and tourism that respects the environment and promotes sustainable enjoyment of the park.
We thank everyone who took the time to join us and contribute to shaping the future of this treasured local asset. Further updates and opportunities to be involved will follow as the project progresses.
